Today is the one year anniversary of BJ's transplant! With transplant patients this day is often referred to as your second birthday. It has been truly amazing to see the changes that BJ has gone through in the last year. A year ago today he was at UAB receiving someone else's stem cells, with the hopes that his body would accept them and he would have the chance to live a healthy life. Today he is in Auburn with the Alabama Baseball team with absolutely no signs of Leukemia in his body! He is a happy now as I have ever seen him and no one deserves it more. This is just an absolutely Great Day! Happy Birthday BJ!

5/11/09 - Another Tremendous Day for BJ!
Hi everyone!!.....Days like today make me so happy that I get the opportunity to do this blog! BJ sent me a text and told me he had more good news. I immediately asked if he could give me a call with some details. He went to UAB for another follow up, this would be the 1 year post transplant follow up, which is HUGE! He happened to be in the general vicinity of my office, so he came by to give me an update in person. I promise, when he walked in you would have thought he was walking on air! They told him that everything looked really good and that they didn't need to see him again for 3 months. If he has any general issues (cold, etc.), he can go see his general physician in Tuscaloosa. Mrs. Green and Dana were with him when he got the news today and while I'm sure they were both equally excited about the news, I don't think they participated in the jumping fist-pump that he said he did in his way out of the office.
I can't imagine the amount of relief that both BJ and his family felt today! On top of the great news BJ got at UAB, we looked online to find out that the Alabama Baseball team had moved up to No. 12 in the country after their big series sweep of Arkansas this weekend. I think it is VERY ironic that on the day that BJ got his good news, the baseball team moved up in the polls to BJ's No. 12 that he wore when he played! That's pretty cool!
Things are going really well for BJ right now and I know he is really appreciative of all of your thoughts and prayers. He still needs you to keep them coming because, as he has said many times, he thinks all of this has happened to him for a reason and I know he is going to continue to use his experience to help others. He has a really powerful story and it just keeps getting better. I will update you all with anything new. Until then, give a special thanks tonight. What a GREAT day!
