Hey everyone.... It has been quite a while since my last post. BJ has been enjoying a really long (and busy) break from the Unit after the last positive visit. We have talked quite a bit, but most of those conversations have been about everyday things because thankfully, there hasn't been much to talk about medically. That was until today! BJ went back to UAB for a follow-up this past Monday. He really didn't know what to expect as far as what test would be done. He was welcomed with the news that he would, once again, be receiving the quite uncomfortable Bone Marrow Test. So, for the last four days, he and his family have been waiting anxiously on the results. I haven't posted anything about this because BJ kind of gave me the impression that there wasn't much to say until he had the results of this test. Those results came today and COULDN'T HAVE BEEN BETTER! As far as the BMT test goes, they said there were NO signs of CML(Leukemia)! He said that he asked them to clarify the results several times, just to be sure and they were very clear that those cells are NO LONGER THERE!
There are a still a couple of other test results that they are waiting on, but after talking to Mrs. Green this afternoon, it sounds like they expect those results to fall in line after this test result.
When I talked to BJ, as expected, he was extremely excited! I know this had to be just unbelievable news for BJ & his family!
I also wanted to mention another accomplishment scheduled for tomorrow. If everything goes as planned, BJ will be running a 5K tomorrow morning in Tuscaloosa. What an amazing accomplishment in less than a year since the transplant! His response to the treatment has been truly remarkable and inspiring! I will try to let you know more about this in my next post.
BJ is scheduled to go back to UAB on May 11th. I hope I can give you some more exciting news then! What a great day!!
